OPP WARNING OF NEW PHONE SCAM IN OTTAWA VALLEY

Ontario Provincial Police are warning residents in the Ottawa Valley of another phone scam going around.
In this case, the caller claims to be from bank or credit card company and tells the potential victim their banking information or credit card has been compromised.
The caller then urgently asks for the answerer's information, to "confirm it."
Calls often come during the early morning or late evening hours, with the intention of catching a potential victim off-guard.
You're reminded to always verify who is calling before giving out personal information over the phone and, if you're in doubt -- hang up.
OPP say if a scam artist contacts you, or if you have been defrauded, contact your local police service or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or visit their website at www.antifraudcentre.ca
